Part 9: Moscow then

We sat on the bed, each on one. We had one more evening until then. We tried to pretend that we were ordinary tourists. Until I had to admit I hadn’t even read in my Lonely Planet. It was about something else and that was in the air and that was just madness and was not addressed now for the time being.

Dinner with his colleagues. They traveled on tomorrow, another performance somewhere else in this world, Gianni didn’t have to go there this time. We drank and we smoked and the others made existence more pleasant. We then called a cab to my hotel and waited outside for it and continued to smoke and drink, at minus 20°C even that was fun, then goodbye and a little trip through the night. My rather expensive hotel was a kind of youth hostel with single room and bathroom. After all. I took off my four layers of clothes and put on my pajamas, still sweating. The window could not be opened, the heater could not be found, the air conditioner rattled. So I was lying on my bed in the dark without a blanket. Outside were endless masses of snow, shoveled during the day by small-looking men, from house roofs located somewhere in the sky, and carted out of town at night by cars with tiny loading areas – until it snowed again. I felt that I was a young woman, somewhere in Eastern Europe, who no one here understood, who understood no one and who knew no one except Gianni and who suddenly thought: are you actually completely stupid? But the young woman knew it was too late for such thoughts. The decision was made long ago. So be it. And that was a good thing. She knew that very well. Yup.
